So my grateful challenge got the best of me and I forgot about it after day 2. Oops. Nonetheless, I am very grateful for everything I've been blessed with in my life, especially my family.
Obviously, Jak would have been the thing I am most grateful for. She is the light of my life and a sign of just how much God loves me (to have sent me such a wonderful, beautiful, smart, talented, sweet baby).

Day 2
What I'm grateful for - day 2:
1. My mom. She's the best. She loves me and stands by me even when it's probably hardest to do. She has shown me how to be a good mom and I can only hope Jak loves me half as much as I love my mom.
2. My Earrell (my grandpa). The greatest man I have ever, or will ever, know. He loved me more than life. We had a bond that I cannot explain. He died nearly 10 years ago and I still think about him every single day. I wish Jak could know him...but in some strange way, I think she does. I see her stare off into space sometimes and talk to the air. I like to think that she is talking to him.
3. My dogs. They get on my nerves. They are dirty and messy and stinky and spoiled, but I love them.

Gratefulness Challenge - Day 1
I recently attended a Marketing seminar where the speaker said she used her blog to do a 30 day gratefulness challenge. While I can't imagine that I can get on here and write for 30 consecutive days, I will challenge myself to write for 1 week - 3 things that I am grateful for. (and I'll save Jak for last) Here we go.
Day 1:
We'll start out easy
1. My wife. We met almost 6 years ago. Loving her comes easily. She loves me no matter what I look like; no matter how I act; no matter what I say. And after having been in a really bad relationship for 8 years, I realize how lucky I am to have found someone who loves me no matter what.
2. My house. I bought it when I was 24. Though I want out of it pretty badly, I am still happy to have had the means to buy it when I was so young (and stupid). haha
3. My job. I really like what I do. My 5 year anniversary there is this July. Prior to that I hated my job so much that I cried every day on my way to work. I was on antidepressants. And on the day that my legs buckled while I was getting into the elevator, I decided to quit without having a backup plan. That decision changed the course of my life for the better.

Happy 1st Birthday Jak!
One year ago today, at 7:05 a.m., my beautiful angel came into the world, and life was never the same.
Jak - We love you more than words could ever say. Thank you for giving me the best year of my life...and many more to come.

First Birthday Extravaganza
On Saturday we celebrated Jak's first birthday. It has been months of planning and even though I know that we went overboard, I think it was well worth it.
The venue: Firefly Play Cafe. This is a great indoor space for kids. All of the toys are mentally stimulating, and require no batteries. Very cool.
The food: We catered in Raising Cane's chicken fingers and fries, as well as sandwiches, chips, and the usual party food. I also prepared brownie pops (which were a pain!) but they turned out well.
The theme: Yo Gabba Gabba. This is Jak's favorite show. She lights up as soon as she hears the theme song. We ordered huge cut-outs of each character. We had dozens of balloons that matched the color scheme. We also ordered special M&M's with pictures of Jak on one side and "Jak is 1!" on the other. The party favors were lots of YGG goodies inside a DJ Lance Rock's boom box. Super cute! The candy bowls, the silverware, the tablecloths...it all matched our theme and looked pretty good, if I do say so myself.
The cakes: YGG themed as well, and made by my brother. The cakes were almost more popular than Jak was. They were outstanding! He is so talented. I told him what I wanted and he made it happen.
Jak: We had a special outfit made for her from Posh Birthday Shop. She was so cute I couldn't stand it. She had so much fun playing with everyone. When we sang Happy Birthday, she smiled so big as if to say "This is all for me?" Of course, I cried a little bit. To think, my baby is (almost) 1. It seems like yesterday I was going into labor. And here I am, the mother of a toddler. Where does the time go?
Enjoy some pictures from the party (taken by my good friend, Vincent).

Beautiful family
As our beautiful daughter turns one, I can't help but look into her eyes and think that she is here all because two people fell in love.

One small step for baby...one giant leap for babykind
November 20, 2011 - Jak took her first step. Yep, that's right! It was just one, but it was a step...on her own...towards me. It was so cute. She is getting so big. I'm very happy it happened at home and not at daycare. I've been worrying about that. She has a long way to go before she's walking, but she is well on her way. I have a feeling we'll have a walking baby by Christmas.
